DISCOUNTS is a short dance piece created by Boglárka Börcsök in 2010 as a graduation work during her studies at P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels. The dance solo is based on the simple and impossible task of counting - out loud - every single movement that occurs during the performance. As a caricature of the disciplined dancer’s body, Börcsök plays between military rigor and unavoidable mistakes - creating a continuous tension between failure and virtuosity.
As an extension of her solo performance, Börcsök invited the Berlin based Japanese video artist Yukihiro Taguchi to collaborate with her between 2011 - 2012. They created a series of playful videos where the stage performance was transfigured into interdisciplinary formats. In their video installations the act of counting was replaced by still photographs mimicking the expression of the performance via stop-motion technique. Working together in Brussels and Denmark, the choreography of DISCOUNTS was brought to urban and public spaces provoking series of encounters with by passers.
